Navy is a private assistant used only by the members of one household. Only household members can connect their Google accounts to it, and each one does so themselves.
Each new inbox message is checked to decide whether its owner should get a short alert, for example a delivery, a bill or an appointment. To do this, the sender, subject and text of the message are sent to Google's Gemini API, which returns a one-sentence summary. The alert is sent only to the account owner's own chat.
Access tokens and a log of each message's sender, subject, category and summary are kept on the household's own server for up to 180 days. Full email contents are not stored.
Data is not sold, shared or used for advertising, and is not used to train AI models. It is not transferred to anyone other than Google, as described above. Navy's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Any member can revoke Navy's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Their stored tokens and log entries are then deleted on request.
